VARIndia IT Forum 2011 in the Capital concludes with stupendous success!
VARIndia organized an Education Summit for the first time with attendance from more than 180 Principals from Delhi & NCR, schools of MCD, Kendriya Vidyalayas and public schools as also reputed educational institutions and governing bodies.
Kalinga Digital Media Private Ltd. (KDMPL) successfully organized the 9th edition of VARIndia IT Forum 2011 in the Capital. Acting as a bridge between the industry and users since 1999, this year, KDMPL added a new flavour by organizing an ICT in Education Summit in the first half of the day. The 9th IT Forum began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the esteemed Chief guest, Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chairman & Chairman, Distance Education Council, IGNOU, and distinguished guests of honour – Mr Ashok Ganguly, Former Chairman, CBSE; Prof. Kailash Nath, Ph.D. (Yale), Interfinit Technologies, USA; and Prof. B. C. Tripathy, FNA, School of Life Sciences, JNU. Mr Tobias Grote-Beverborg, M.A., Distribution Executive, South Asia, Deutsche Welle, Germany, was the special guest of the session.
The Education Summit comprised of speeches from educationists on the current education system, its "Drawbacks", "Challenges" and "What it should be like". While the educationists brought to light the current challenges, the corporate representatives from Canon, HP, Epson and NComputing informed the audience about the various IT solutions which can be used to enhance the current education system. IT companies showcased their products and technologies available for educational institutions and students.
There was also a panel discussion on the role of "ICT in Education" moderated by Mr Bikas K. Singh, Head - Corporate Affairs, Lenovo India. The panel discussed and highlighted a major problem of teachers' preparedness to use the newer forms of education. The panellists included Prof. K. Subramanian, Professor & Director, Advanced Centre for Informatics & Innovative Learning, IGNOU; Prof. B. C. Tripathy, FNA, School of Life Sciences, JNU; Mr Puneet Sabharwal, Assistant Director, Canon India; Mr Mohammad Danish, Sr. Product Manager, Microsoft India; Mr Amit Khanna, Director - Business Development, NComputing; Ms Ritu Ghosh, Government Affairs Specialist, HP India; and Mr Satyajeet Satapathy, Deputy General Manager - North & East, EPSON India. The valedictory address was delivered by Mr Ashok Ganguly, Former Chairman, CBSE.
The evening session highlighted the "Latest Trends and Technologies and Opportunities in the Government Verticals". The evening kick-started with the lamp lighting ceremony by Shri Surya Narayan Patro, Minister of Revenue and I&PR, Government of Orissa; Shri Shankar Aggarwal, IAS, Additional Secretary - IT, Goverment of India; Shri Savitur Prasad, IAS, Secretary - IT, Government of Delhi; Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India; Shri A. J. Kurian, ISS, Additional Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Delhi; Shri B. Chandrashekhar, Director, Directorate of EDCS, Government of Karnataka; Shri Sanjiv Mittal, CEO, National Institute of Smart Governance; Shri B. B. Nanawati, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Government of India; Shri Vipin Tyagi, Director, C-Dot, Government of India; Dr. Madhu Nambiar, Managing Director & CEO, SRIT; and Shri Sunil Verma, Deputy Controller & Auditor General of India
The event had speeches and presentations from the industry body, Government and corporate houses on the "Latest Trends and Technologies and Opportunities in Government", "Importance of saving Energy and the various means to Save Energy", "Cloud Storage", "Opportunities in Virtualization", and "Intelligent Security".
The evening session of the Forum also had a panel discussion on "Enhancing Citizen Services", moderated by Dr. Jaijit Bhattacharya, Director - Government Affairs, HP India. The valedictory address was made by Shri Prakash Kumar, Director, Public Sector, IBSG, Cisco Systems.
VARIndia, as per its policy, tries to recognize the industry players based on the feedback of the users (customers) at their annual IT Forum. This year also,the Government of Delhi won the "Best e-Governed State" award.
There were seven awards for the "Most Trusted Companies of the Year 2011" category and the winners were Canon India, SAP India, Intel Technology India, Cisco Systems India, HP India, Samsung Electronics India and Polycom. Iomega, Microsoft India, IBM India, Check Point India, Dell India, Western Digital and Zicom Electronics bagged the award in the category "Brand of Excellence for the Year 2011".
While conluding, S. Mohini Ratna, Editor, VARIndia, thanked the audience for making the event a success. She said, "ICT has a major role to play in all the realms of our life in one way or the other. Now is the time when we should understand each other's needs and then work towards achieving a common goal. Be it education or government verticals or any other market vertical, ICT vendors have solutions for all.
