Karbonn Mobiles plans to launch its tablet PC, the Karbonn K-pad by October this year, which will be priced below Rs. 10,000.

"The tablet which will be available in three sizes - 7 inch, 9 inch and 10 inch can also be used as a mobile phone. Karbonn hopes to sell about 40,000 tablets a month," Sudhir Hasija, Chairman, Karbonn Mobiles said.

It has invested about Rs. 70 crore for this product and its Android-based Smartphone. The Karbonn A1 phone, based on the Android Froyo 2.2 OS is a 3G-enabled phone and has a 2.8 inch capacitive touch screen, a 3.2 mega pixel camera, 1100mAh battery and supports up to 32 GB expandable memory. The phone will be priced Rs. 6,900.

Hasija further said, "The company has sought Private Equity funding of about $ 250 million from Indian and international investors, for all new launches in the pipeline. Karbonn Mobiles is looking at an IPO in 2-3 years. Karbonn proposes to take its new products to Africa and the Middle East in addition to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Singapore where it is already present. The company expects to earn about 15 per cent of its revenue from exports by 2012. We will be using the new Lithium Polymer batteries instead of the Leon batteries that are used today. These batteries cost about 10 per cent more, and are not bulky and can be used in slim phones."

The company, which carved a niche in the mobile phone market by offering a long battery life, will also launch a phone by September this year which will have an even longer battery life of 45 days standby(2400 MH battery) compared with the 30 days standby (1800 MH battery) that several phones boast of today. The company also plans to start offering value-added services like push mail, call management services and other applications. Karbonn, under its expansions, also has a tie-up with Disney to manufacture slightly more expensive mobile phones with Disney features and packaging as part of the Disney merchandise.
