Samsung creating Hindi version of Android

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE

Samsung and Google are planning for a Hindi version of the Android operating system (OS), claimed sources. There is no Hindi version of the Android OS yet, despite of being one of the most popular smartphone operating systems in India. This OS currently supports the major European languages and Chinese.

According to the buzz, Asim Warsi, Director of Marketing, Samsung's mobile business said, "Since it is a third party OS, we do not have much control over it. We are presently in talks with Google for such a version. However, we can't comment on when it will be done as that is not in our control."

Only 11 per cent speak English out of the total population of India. India is said to be the world's one of the fastest growing mobile market with more than 540 million active mobile users, and some studies even suggest that close to 15 per cent of these people are smartphone users. Despite Hindi being the fourth most commonly spoken language in the world, Android or any other major smartphone OS doesn't have a Hindi version yet.

Although, there are feature phone OS in Hindi from both MNCs and Indian brands, the main problem is that the letters on the keyboard are usually in English.

Not only the consumers will benefit with handsets in the Indian language, the operators and the content industry will profit by it as well.
