ZTE enters Optical Network Deal with FibreCo

ZTE Corporation has entered into an optical backbone network contract with FibreCo. The contract was signed by Andile Ngcaba President FibreCo and Chen Jie Senior Vice President ZTE.

ZTE is to solely construct phase one of the project, which includes 1,900 kilometers of fiber optic cable. The FibreCo national optical backbone network project aims to build a national open-access network, and will make affordable optical networks available to businesses, R&D centers and academic institutions.

As part of the project, ZTE is said to deploy several hundred sets of WDM devices. This includes the next-generation ZXWM M920 unit. In addition, built-in network planning software will enhance network management and planning, making efficient use of FibreCo resources while increasing network reliability and flexibility, thereby cutting capital and operating expenses.

"This landmark investment will provide affordable, reliable and fast Internet access to ordinary South Africans," said Andile Ngcaba President, FibreCo.
