ARM buys Prolific Inc.

ARM has announced that it has acquired Prolific, Inc. The increasing complexity of 20nm and low process technologies is driving the need for automated layout optimization solutions. This acquisition augments ARM's strategy to provide innovative physical IP products that will enable the ARM partnership to continue to lead in the implementation of highly integrated, low-power system-on-chip solutions.

Simon Segars, EVP & GM, Physical IP Division, ARM said, "We have been successfully collaborating with Prolific for a number of years. The technology and expertise that will come with this acquisition will expand our capabilities to accelerate ecosystem adoption of advanced process nodes at 20nm and below."

Paul de Dood, President & Founder, Prolific, Inc. said, "Prolific has a long history of improving the efficiency of complex physical design process flows. The ARM partnership will benefit from faster time to market for advanced node solutions through the addition of Prolific's leading-edge optimization tools, which enable optimum power, performance and area with accelerated development timelines."

The Prolific team is to become part of the ARM Physical IP team based in San Jose, CA.

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Aruna Sundararajan said, “M2M is the next big opportunity for India in terms of its impact and the quantum change that it will bring about in the quality of services and delivery. The favourable impact of M2M on job creation had already set in as seen by the arrival of the first set of start-ups in the areas such as agriculture, smart cities, healthcare and water management.” She stressed that NTP 2018 would be transformative in harnessing the full benefits of M2M communications.
