Hotels.com reveals its new Hotel Price Index

Metro cities continue to capture top spots among the 10 most popular cities for travelers, according to the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI). Bengaluru and Chennai follow the political and financial capital of India in terms of popularity with travelers. While traveling abroad, Indians tend to choose South Asian destinations over Europe and the Americas with nine Asian cities in the top 20 international destinations for Indians.

According to the HPI report, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru & Chennai hold identical positions as popular destinations - both in the preferred list of international and domestic travelers. Apart from the leading metros - Goa, Jaipur and Hyderabad feature in both lists. Goa is the fifth most preferred for Indians Jaipur finds itself at the sixth position on the list for Indian travelers while international tourists show more preference for the pink city at fifth position IT city- Hyderabad seems to be more popular with non-Indian travelers at sixth place on the international list and at the eighth position on the domestic travel list.

Looking away from home, South East Asian destinations dominated the top 10 destinations for overseas travel amongst Indians replacing Hong Kong which slipped to the fourth position. Singapore tops the chart as the most preferred destination with its new luxury hotel offerings like the Marina Bay Sands, followed by Bangkok. London continues to attract a lot of Indian travelers with its amalgam of rich heritage, cultural experience and modern amenities but has slipped to the third most preferred destination.
