mPowerpad- Portable Solar Charger arrives

Third Wave Power Pte Ltd has offered its new mPowerpad, a multi-function, portable solar device that can power up digital devices and packed with functions indispensable for users operating away from the power grid, like AM/FM/SW radio, reading light, flashlight and ultrasonic insect repellent.

mPowerpad is said to require less than 6 hours worth of direct sunlight falling on its 4W solar panel to get fully charged. With its 2500mAh battery capacity, it can fully charge up an iPhone - at same quick rate as from an AC/DC outlet - while simultaneously providing reading light, radio and insect repellant for 4-5 hours. Through two USB ports, mPowerpad is capable of charging many types of devices and gadgets such as mobile phones, smartphones, tablets.

Third Wave Power, which is backed by commercial incubator Small World Group and Singapore's National Research Foundation, expects mPowerpad to begin shipping in January next year, with a recommended retail price of US$80 per unit.

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Aruna Sundararajan said, “M2M is the next big opportunity for India in terms of its impact and the quantum change that it will bring about in the quality of services and delivery. The favourable impact of M2M on job creation had already set in as seen by the arrival of the first set of start-ups in the areas such as agriculture, smart cities, healthcare and water management.” She stressed that NTP 2018 would be transformative in harnessing the full benefits of M2M communications.
