SAP India initiates program for Informal Sector Women Workers

SAP India has announced an initiative to empower informal sector women workers by enhancing their skills and employability potential. Creative Livelihood and Youth (CLAY), a programme jointly developed with NGO partner LEARN (Labour Education and Research Network) is believed to build capacities of domestic workers, home based workers, garment and embellishment workers.

The program includes training in tailoring and fashion designing, marketing and basic accounting, housekeeping, spoken English and leadership development.

LEARN is expected to identify women workers and their daughters for enrolment, as well as facilitate the entire training process, while SAP India claims to provide financial support and guidance for the programme. Project CLAY hopes to impact the lives of 10,000 beneficiaries in LEARN's Dharavi, Nasik and Solapur centres this year.

In addition, through its initiative 'Project Lakshya' aimed at imparting basic computer literacy, SAP India will inaugurate a computer lab for women at LEARN centers. SAP India is supposed to provide the necessary infrastructure, technology expertise and manage operational costs.

Peter Gartenberg, MD, SAP India said, "SAP India believes in the potential of the informal sector workers, who constitute 93% of India's workforce. We want to enable the women workers in this sector to upgrade their skills in various trades, so that they can improve their employment prospects. This will help them derive higher value for their work."

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications.
