Hybrid energy technologies evaluated

Emerson Network Power has offered insight and recommendations for properly evaluating, selecting and operating smart hybrid energy solutions at telecom cell sites.

There are opportunities for improvement ranging from more precise configuration and dimensioning of hybrid systems to implementation of intelligent hybrid technologies that make hybrid solutions even more efficient and change the value proposition for some network providers.

"Telecom operators are evaluating different combinations of hybrid technologies, capital investment and OPEX to narrow down on the solutions that can deliver the lowest TCO. Even as the emerging generation of intelligent hybrid technologies promises reduced operational costs along with increased visibility and control, service providers should also look at engineered best practices that can provide measurable benefits across their network, without significant capital investment," said Pratik Chube, Country GM - Products & Marketing, Emerson Network Power in India.

"Fuel and power costs are largely responsible for high operational expenditures of telecom sites, adding to the woes of telecom operators who are already dealing with a dwindling ARPU and pressure on profit margins. Through careful planning and selection, Hybrid solutions can help significantly reduce costs and improve operational efficiency at telecom sites," Pratik Chube further added.

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Aruna Sundararajan said, “M2M is the next big opportunity for India in terms of its impact and the quantum change that it will bring about in the quality of services and delivery. The favourable impact of M2M on job creation had already set in as seen by the arrival of the first set of start-ups in the areas such as agriculture, smart cities, healthcare and water management.” She stressed that NTP 2018 would be transformative in harnessing the full benefits of M2M communications.
