Intel rolls out new programme

Intel has launched the Intel Future Scientist programme in India, aimed at enabling the innovators to have grounding in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The Programme is designed to help science teachers present their curricula from an inquiry-based perspective. "Intel Future Scientist programme", developed in India, was launched at the Asia Science Educator Academy in December 2011.

Dr. Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, Member of Planning Commission of the Government of India, said, "At every level, science education remains crucial for India’s continued growth as a knowledge economy. Kindling the spirit of enquiry through science in the early years of education among the youth can be an effective means of sharpening the thinking process. This, in turn, is crucial to become a successful researcher or an innovator and to be endowed with a scientific bent of mind in addressing problems of modern life. I hope the Intel Future Scientist programme will support schools across the country to strengthen inquiry-based learning, spark curiosity and encourage innovation in the classrooms."

The Programme consists of seven modules that are delivered over two days of training comprising inquiry-based learning, facilitating scientific inquiry, from the classroom to the science fair.

"Through our various education programmes, we aim to raise the bar for Indian students by establishing world-class education standards. The Intel Future Scientist programme is one of our efforts to accomplish this. Technology is amongst the greatest tools to advance education and we need innovative programmes that have challenging curricula to prepare our students for the careers of the future. Promoting and nurturing that spirit of inquiry among students is the primary goal of the Intel Future Scientist programme," said Dr. Praveen Vishakantaiah, President, Intel India.

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Aruna Sundararajan said, “M2M is the next big opportunity for India in terms of its impact and the quantum change that it will bring about in the quality of services and delivery.
