The certification process provides a third-party evaluation service for determining the trustworthiness of information technology security products. RIM sets up Server in Mumbai

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Research In Motion (RIM) has set up a "server" in Mumbai to provide a mechanism for lawful interception of its messenger services. "A team of officials from security agencies has inspected the server. Test runs are going on to check its effectiveness. Required permission for direct linkage for lawful interception of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) services is likely to be issued shortly," according to an official. By setting up the server in India, RIM has had to drop its reluctance to make an exception to its policy of securing communication from any real-time interception. The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has also asked Nokia to do what RIM has done so that its push mails can be legally tracked as and when required by security agencies. According to market buzz, the new logo is said to be slightly-angled blue block with a thin white cross in the middle, meshing with the Metro design of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8. The new logo is designed by Paula Scher from the Pentagram Design Agency. Gartner: Worldwide Smartphone Sales scored 47% Growth in Q4 2011

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Worldwide smartphone sales to end users soared to 149 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011, a 47.3 per cent increase from the fourth quarter of 2010, according to Gartner, Inc. Total smartphone sales in 2011 reached 472 million units and accounted for 31 percent of all mobile devices sales, up 58 percent from 2010. Smartphone volumes during the quarter rose due to record sales of Apple iPhones. As a result, Apple became the third-largest mobile phone vendor in the world; overtaking LG. Apple also became the world's top smartphone vendor, with a market share of 23.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011, and the top smartphone vendor for 2011 as a whole, with a 19 percent market share. Cyber Criminals hacked Andhra Govt. websites

It is believed that the hackers did not deface the pages or steal the information but only added additional pages with their message. The websites which were hacked include those of departments of commercial taxes, general administration department, horticulture, factories, gazette notifications and government orders. Some Bangladeshi hacking groups are suspected to be behind the incident. Ponnala Lakshmaiah, State Information Technology Minister claimed, "There was no loss of data. One of the 50 government servers was hacked and 27 websites supported by the server were affected."
